We knew that trying to find a place to stay in Verona, on what was one of the busiest weekends in summer, would be difficult but never thought it would be close to impossible. It didn’t help that we decided last-minute to stay overnight in Verona and if we hadn’t already bought tickets for the opera, I would have said “Let’s just skip the city”.
After being told there was no availability for the umpteenth time, we were on the verge of giving up. We decided to go another route and checked for listings on AirBnB.
This was when our luck changed. We found a place that had a room available with an ensuite bathroom just across the Adige and very reasonably priced. Though not located in the center, Bed and Breakfast Cokai is situated very close to Ponte Pietra and only a few minutes walk to the Duomo of Verona. And as we were going to Verona by car, it was a plus to know that there was free parking nearby.
The apartment, tucked away in a corner of on a charming street, is outside the center in an area that is serene and tranquil. Nearby, you have the Roman amphitheater (not to be confused with the Verona Arena), and you could walk up to Castel San Pietro to take in fabulous views of the city.
The lady who met us was friendly and gave us suggestions on where to eat as well as main attractions to visit during our short stay. They have maps and leaflets handy for guests in their tastefully decorated living room.
The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve come across and it was a blessing that they have air-conditioning. In the peak of summer, though an older wall-unit, the most important thing was that the air-conditioning worked and well too!
B&B Cokai was clean and had a nice homey atmosphere. The room which we stayed in was not huge but had an ensuite bathroom. Some rooms in the bed and breakfast, instead, have shared bathrooms.
The breakfast spread was what you would find in a typical bed and breakfast. Nothing fancy but more than sufficient: croissants, jams, bread, cookies, yogurt, fruits along with tea, coffee and juice. And when the weather is lovely, you could have breakfast on the small balcony boasting wonderful views.
If we are in Verona again, we’d certainly stay at this bed and breakfast. Here’s a link to more photos of the property.
