Show and Tell: First visit to Puglia

This week I’m excited to have Georgette share her favorite photos from Puglia, where she was whisked off to celebrate her birthday last weekend. Puglia, is one of my favorite regions, and I was living vicariously through her during the trip.

It was her first visit there and I’m sure she’ll back to experience more of the region. I’ll let Georgette take it from here.

1. Taken from a panoramic piazza above the UNESCO heritage site that is Alberobello, heart of the Itria valley and home of the beautiful and mysterious ‘Trulli’. Trulli are limestone buildings, known for their unique drywall construction and famous for their cone-like shaped-roof.

2. On the second Sunday of the month, Ostuni holds a rather delightful antique market. Here you can find all sorts of interesting items on display, including the famous ‘pumi’ colorful ceramic buds.

3. Walking along the port of the small town of bisceglie in Puglia, here the light seems almost magical over the bobbing boats in the harbor.

4. Dinner at a beautiful hideaway in Monopoli, Puglia (yes there is a real city named Monopoli), Porto Giardino not only serves amazing grilled octopus but also has one table for two with a sea view all for itself, an amazing place!

5. Wandering the ‘city of white’ Ostuni, Puglia is like entering another era. Founded by an indigenous tribe some 600 years before Christ, its uniform white walls look over the surrounding hillside and  the Adriatic Sea

6. Polignano a Mare was one of our absolute favorite towns, not just for the awesome lunch we had but for this incredible view of a tiny beach between the cliffs. The water was a beautiful clear blue-green. A must-visit for anyone in Puglia.
