Our itinerary to Piedmont this summer was tight but as we were in the vicinity, it felt right that we hop over from Canelli to Langhe, an area renowned for its wines. Studded with charming towns, it was a challenge to narrow it to just one and at the end, we found ourselves a lovely bed and breakfast outside the town of Monforte d’Alba.
You might have seen photos of this breathtaking area but they don’t come close to doing this place justice. When we drove through Langhe we were in awe at the spectacular vineyard-covered landscape and didn’t know where to start looking.
My eyes were darting around trying to take it all in and after driving a few hundred meters, we would stop the car to take a snapshot of the area. At that pace, we would never have made it to our destination and finally decided to just drive and enjoy the scenery along the way. All I can say is that I’ll be back to fully explore this stunning area.
6 Favorite Photos of Monforte d’Alba, Piedmont
1. Driving through Langhe we were in awe at the landscape as the entire area is covered in vineyards and it was an incredible sight. Recently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site we couldn’t get enough of this area.
2. We stopped by the charming town of Monforte d’Alba for a walk and it was relatively quiet even with a festival in town that evening.
3. Lush and green sightings all over the town of Monforte d’Alba.
4. While looking for a place to stay in the Langhe, we were undecided between two or three stunning places. At the end, we chose to stay at Cascina Amalia, on the outskirts of Monforte d’Alba. A small, quaint place and surrounded by vineyards and with an outdoor swimming pool, we were thrilled with this place. It was bliss!
5. We had dinner at La Torricella and enjoyed every dish that was served. They offer an interesting menu option where for €25 you get a choice of 1 appetizer, 1 first course (pasta dish) and 1 main course, and dessert at €4. It also offers accommodations and for our next visit in this area, we might give this place a try.
6. Just before dinner, we were treated to this sunset. Our stay in the Langhe couldn’t be more perfect!
