When Tiana Kai, travel blogger and marketing consultant based in Florence, was in Sestriere last month, I kept a close eye on her Instagram gallery and experienced this place vicariously through her.
Here are more photos from her trip to Sestriere that reveal her undying obsession for food, wine, mountains, social media, cowboy boots and photography.
6 Favorite Photos from Sestriere, Piedmont
Sestriere
Sestriere, Piedmont is such an incredible location! Besides the great Piemontese mountain food and gluttonous apres ski drinks (which I’ll definitely get into) it’s surrounded by the Vialattea—Milky Way—Mountain range.
Sestriere has great ski runs, even an Olympic run from the 2006 Winter Olympics! You would be surprised to find so many things available at 2035 meters up like a state-of-the-art movie theatre, boutiques, high-end bars, local pizzeria joints and year round events!
Dog sledding
So, apparently Sestriere also has dog sledding. The track takes about 40 minutes to run. Warning: it’s quite a workout! My left shoulder and bicep got a run for their money by trying to keep the sled on the track and not fall into the fresh snow. It was a great experience and such a gorgeous area to sled through.
Sauze d’Oulx and Sansicario
With one ski pass you have your choice of 6 mountains! My favorite, besides Sestriere, is Sauze d’Oulx for the long runs that are perfect for snowboarding and endless bars and restaurants. Sansicario is also a great one for their fun piste and seems to have less skiers and boarders.
Snowshoeing
If skiing isn’t your thing then go for a hike! There are great snowshoeing tracks in the area where you can enjoy a picnic if the sun’s out.
My thighs felt the workout from walking in fresh snow when the track felt too easy. My friend and I packed panini and drinks, so we made an afternoon out of it. It was Spring weather with fresh snow on the ground!
Bombardino
Now for that apres ski! There are so many great option like an Aperol Spritz or rum punch, BUT the bombardino stole my heart. This small glass packs a punch!
Below all the fresh panna is a mixture of espresso, eggnog and brandy. Some versions use Vov or rum. There’s one place on the mountain where I always get one no matter what time, since I never know when I’ll take another snowboarding break.
Piazzaporn
After all the adventure during the day it’s always nice to just relax and unwind whether I get fresh tartar from the butcher, fresh ravioli from Il Negozietto or eat at one of our favorite restaurants. There are many choices for such a small town of only 800 residents!
Winter is always amazing up here, but last year I was lucky enough to spend August in these Alps where there’s a whole other list of activities!
Thanks Tiana for these stunning photos! And maybe next year, we will make our way to Sestriere.
Thank you for sharing my pics and love for Sestriere!!
We usually go to Alto Adige but looking at your photos, we might head to Sestriere next year.
