We love the holiday season in Italy! We already had a glimpse of the Christmas atmosphere in Florence, and here are more festive photos from Milan. Nerys Howell, originally from the countryside of west Wales but has been living in Milan for 5 years, shares 6 of her favorite Christmas photos from the city.
6 Festive Photos of Milan
1. At the beginning of December a great big Christmas tree goes up in Piazza del Duomo, the main piazza in Milan. This year’s tree is sponsored by DHL, and there are yellow bows decorating it. I always look forward to seeing the tree every year – it’s such a beautiful sight especially at night!
2. Every year around the Immacolata a little market pops up in Piazza del Duomo selling gifts for Christmas and food from all over Italy.
3. La Rinascente in Piazza del Duomo is always pretty extravagant when it comes to decorations, no other store in Milan can beat it! This is one of their colourful window displays from this year.
4. One of the most beautiful sights in Milan any time of year is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, and at Christmas it’s even more pretty! These lights hang from the glass cupola in the centre of the Galleria, and the stem in the middle of a red cross on a white background is of Milanese flag.
5. Via Dante is a pretty cobbled street in the city centre, and it’s also one of the streets in Milan that has the most interesting Christmas lights year after year. These lights also are also up in Piazza dei Mercanti, finishing just off Piazza del Duomo.
6. Via Napoleone as you can imagine with it being the home of designer fashion and expensive boutiques, goes all-out at Christmas. As well as the decorations and the displays and lights in the shops there’s also music playing in the street!
