This week on Show and Tell, Alessandra Catania, a copywriter and travel blogger in love with Romagna takes us on a journey to discover this part of Emilia-Romagna.
6 Favorite Photos of Romagna
It was not a very hard decision to take: telling the stories of Romagna, the place where I’ve lived since childhood, was my destiny. This region is a microcosm of different landscapes, accents, foods, traditions and histories and places, difficult to find somewhere else.
Jumping from the mountains of the National Park of Foreste Casentinesi and Monte Falterona to the beaches of Rimini and the wetlands of the Piallassa Baiona, near Ravenna it is as easy as eating a good dish of handmade pasta (for example cappelletti). This past year I gave my eyes the chance to observe and tell the story of this area as if I was not a local, but with the passion that a local has for its mother land. A continuous discovery, day by day, place by place.
Listening to people’s tales, reading a lot, learning to use my camera and teaching my eyes to catch the moments. The result is a diary collection of my adventures in Romagna, the soulful land, where people still have the “elan” to help a stranger in need or just show them the best place to eat piadina and, maybe, spend some moments with them.
These photos tell some of the best moments of this last year, since I started my blog 21 Grammy, and give you a general overview of places, people and food. Let’s discover it together!
1. Cesenatico: The harbor designed by Leonardo Da Vinci hosts the unique floating Sea Museum with restored ancient boats, some of them still sailing the sea, used in the harbors of the Adriatic Sea (Chioggia, Venice, Ancona). This is one of the biggest, the Barchet.
2. Dovadola: The workshop of Angelo Foscolo Lombardi, one of the left lute maker in the area. Here showing a detail of his work during the Buonvivere 2013 Blog Tour.
3. Forlì: The recently restored Icaro statue. One of the symbols of the town, built in the 30’s and one of the masterpiece of the Rationalist architecture, gathered in Atrium, the European route of culture.
4. Tredozio: Experiencing a dinner in a typical Romagna family. Here Catherine Sweeney with Mafalda and Beatrice Fontaine, at Fantini Palace, during the blog tour RomagnaDiffusa.
5. Portico di Romagna: The falls of Acquacheta in the National Park of Foreste Casentinesi. Dante mentioned these fall in his Divina Commedia. A show of nature.
6. Ravenna: Piallassa Baiona, a unique wetland area. The “casoni”, typical fishing houses which are the symbol of this area. Here birdwatching is a ”must do”!
