Louisa Garrod, who has already shared photos of charming towns in Abruzzo, takes us around the charming town Guardiagrele. Louisa started the blog ‘My Family & Abruzzo’ in June last year, but have been holidaying in Abruzzo since 2003 as they have a holiday home there.
6 Favorite Photos of Guardiagrele, Abruzzo
Guardiagrele is one of our favourite towns in Abruzzo. Rising majestically in the hills, this charming old town has great shops and cafes. It is brimming with character and a bit like Rome, you know you’ll want to return.
1. I took this shot in the rain. This street runs off the main piazza. I thought black and white just captured the moment without detracting from the beauty of the lovely old buildings.
2. I love the trees in this little piazza opposite the park. It is the middle of the town, but it is so peaceful. You often see people reading books here, or happy, alone with their thoughts.
3. This is one of the old gateways into the town. I love anything historic and this beautiful arch is like a magnificent window framing the hills beyond.
4. This is the town’s park. It is such a pleasant place to stroll, or sit awhile. Our sons love the children’s play area and the bridge (pictured).
5. This is one of the back streets. I love that every street in Guardiagrele has it’s own unique character and charm.
6. This fountain is actually new. I chose this photo because I love the coloured townhouses behind, as well as the ornate fountain itself.
Thanks Louisa for showing us around Guardiagrele. I have never been to this town in Abruzzo and have added it to my (long) bucket list.
