Italy “Show and Tell” is a weekly series published on Sundays where invited guests share 6 of their favorite photos from their trip to Italy or life in Italy, along with a short description.
I’ll start this series off as BrowsingRome.com by sharing my favorite photos from last summer in San Vito lo Capo, Sicily. While we enjoyed the lively atmosphere, encountered friendly locals, and enjoyed crystal clear waters, it felt like the whole of Sicily converged onto this stretch of beach in August.
I hope to be back to visit again, this time I know better than to go in August.
6 Favorite Photos from San Vito lo Capo, Sicily
1. San Vito lo Capo, situated in north-western Sicily, boasts one of the most stunning beaches on the island with crystal clear waters. Thanks to this, it’s a popular summer destination.
2. The calm waters make it a perfect vacation spot for families with children. And if you love water sports, you find plenty of activities to keep you busy.
3. To get away from the crowds, we took a boat trip to the Riserva dello Zingaro (Nature reserve of Zingaro) and the spectacular Faraglioni di Scopello, huge rocks jutting out from the water. Here, it felt like we were swimming in an aquarium and with a snorkel, we saw an abundance of fish. Oh, and a couple of jellyfish too.
4. A unique type of pasta called busiate which resembles a telephone cord (remember those?). In the past, busiate was shaped with a “buso”, a wooden stick from a plant that grows in the area, but today, it’s done with the help of machines.
5. One of the joys of staying in an apartment is that we could live like a local and prepare our own meals. This was my daily morning stop before going to the beach.
6. At night, sunbathers make their way from the beach to the streets of San Vito lo Capo. A vibrant atmosphere, you’ll find crowds talking a stroll after dinner, grabbing gelato or just taking in the lively scene.
Additional notes: Every year, San Vito lo Capo hosts the annual Cous Cous festival in September where it “celebrates the typical Sanvitese preparation of the multi-culti dish that is cous cous”.
