This week on Italy “Show and Tell”, I invited my good friend Gillian McGuire, who lives in Rome and has fallen in love with the Amalfi Coast, to share her favorite photos of Positano.
6 Favorite Photos of Positano
Positano is an impossibly beautiful place. You can see more gorgeous images of this town on these previous Show and Tell posts. These images are not the familiar striking vistas but instead offer a closer look at a day in Positano.
Positano has a relaxed beachy vibe. Here are my favorite places for locally loved snacks as well as places to shop and relax so that you can find your own laid back glamour.
1. Breakfast at the Beach
On a warm summer morning I love to start my day with a cold cappuccino and a sweet roll dusted with crunchy sugar crystals. Go to the bar at the elegant Buca di Bacco Hotel and ask for a cappuccino freddo, which is made with coffee granita and cold milk, and a brioche and watch the local sailors getting ready for their day on the water. Address: Via Rampa Teglia, 4
2. A favorite summer view
Spending a day next to the crystal clear water, on a beach lounger (lettino) underneath the green and yellow striped umbrellas (ombrellone) at the friendly beach club Bar Bagni Ferdinando is one of the most relaxing ways to spend a hot summer day. Located in Fornillo, take the path along the via Positanesi d’Americato, and discover the quiet side of Positano.
3. Ceramics Shopping
The bright, colorful ceramics that are produced all along the Amalfi Coast are a way to bring a little bit of Positano sunshine to your table every day. Much of my (always growing) collection comes from the shop across from the Mandara parking garage on via Pasitea. Head through the main shop and it’s tourist wares and to the outside space and browse in peace.
4. Hippy Chic
Positano has a distinct style. Almost every gal you see in Positano has on chic flat sandals and a floaty elegant coverup. Here are where I get mine, Antica Sartoria.
Floaty white tunics and colorful light dresses…it is hard to chose just one. There are also stacks of sarongs in a plethora of patterns. Address: Piazza dei Mulini 1/3
5. Safari
Whether you like lots sparkles or simple straps at Safari there is a sandal for everyone at Safari. Pick out your straps, have your foot measured and in a few hours you can have a pair of custom made kicks for your very own. Address: via Della Tartana, 2
6. Granita di Limone
All that shopping has probably made you thirsty. Next to the Antica Sartoria shop at Piazza Mulini look for a small cart selling tart, sweet and refreshingly cold cups of icy lemon granita.
